It's all about the family
At Chelanrei, our journey began in 1978 when Andrè Bewis, a dedicated SAPD officer, discovered a passion for leather craftsmanship. It started with handcrafted holsters for his firearm, which quickly caught the attention of his colleagues. This small venture grew as Andrè expanded his skills, creating belts, shoes, handbags, and sandals that became staples at festivals, agricultural shows, and markets.
In 2024, the legacy took a new turn when I joined my father in this craft. Together, we decided to bring our cherished leather products online, combining decades of tradition with modern accessibility.
The name Chelanrei represents our family bond, crafted from our names:
- CH for Christo
- EL for Elize
- AN for Andrè
- REI for Reinhardt
